Living off-grid or in a tiny house already nudges me to move—hauling water, chopping wood, walking hills—but I realized that this “survival activity” alone isn’t enough to keep my body fit and healthy, which is my true capital out here.
So I layer intentional bodyweight exercises—squats, push-ups, pull-ups on a tree branch, planks, hill sprints—on top of my chores to stay strong wherever I am. By turning simple tasks into “chore workouts,” I burn extra calories and build real-world strength without a gym, often just using my body, my space, and sometimes a kettlebell.
Over time I figured that signing up for a competition is an effective catalyst for growth for me. When I committed to a Spartan Race, it stopped being “I’ll train when I feel like it” and became “race day is coming, and I need to be ready.” That single decision injected structure and discipline into my routine and turned me from someone who occasionally trained into “a racer in preparation.” With friends, community, and online followers watching my journey, the external pressure anchored habits that might otherwise slip, and my quality of preparation went through the roof.
I noticed something interesting happening:
My identity started to shift, and I became someone who is anti-inertia, who chooses growth over comfort. The discipline, resilience, and confidence I built for the race spilled over into my sleep, mood, and self-talk, affecting how I show up.
In the end, the Spartan Race is just the catalyst; the real win is becoming a better person. The competition accelerated my growth into that direction.
In the podcast, I also introduce the Spartan Race Preparation Program. It’s a no-nonsense, step-by-step plan that works for beginners and hobby athletes. It’s all in a mobile app, so you can literally access your workouts, videos, guides, and daily routines anywhere. There’s no more guessing. You get a 12-week blueprint with daily workouts, explainer videos, walkthroughs and work sheets for nutrition, habits, race-day strategy, and mental toughness. It’s cheaper than a pizza. It is not a subscription, just a one-off payment.
